38.5 rugged miles from Avalon to Parsons Landing across the Conservancy's 42,000-acre preserve — most hikers take 3 days via Black Jack, Little Harbor and Two Harbors camps. Hiking permit is free; campsites book out months ahead.

Avalon's backyard trail — a steep 1.7-mile grunt from Avalon Canyon up to Divide Road, loopable with the TCT for knockout harbor views. The walk-in campground below is the only one near town.
