The big seafood house right on the water where the boats pull up — chowder, cioppino and whatever the local fleet landed that morning. Touristy at peak hour, but the deck over the harbor earns it.

The Island Company's polished flagship on the corner of Crescent and Catalina — the closest thing Avalon has to a proper upscale dinner house. Floor-to-ceiling windows onto the bay and a serious central bar.

Coastal Italian on the waterfront (the old Villa Portofino space) — pastas, cioppino and a proper wine list, plus weekend breakfast. Takes a winter break each January, back mid-February.

Avalon's oldest bar — built like a boat's bow by Merchant Marines during WWII, with Bud Upton's 1946 underwater mural still on the walls. Stiff drinks, pool, darts, zero pretension; open till 2am when the rest of town sleeps.

Avalon's longtime Mexican standby is back from its winter remodel with a refreshed look and a new menu. Borracho chicken, whole fried mojarra, and steaks off the grill, plus top-shelf margaritas from two full bars — and the glass-enclosed upstairs courtyard is still the sneaky-best perch on Claressa. All-day hours.
